I love designing HVAC controls. It’s the most important environmental control in the cockpit and also one of the most complex.

And it is here that I believe physical controls make a huge amount of sense. Designers can use haptics, sound, form and heat! to communicate with the driver and keep their eyes on the road.

The heart of this is rotary control; which conveys modulation and precision, if we combine this with toggles for inertial communication and rockers for binary commands you can get a complex set of controls that are intuitive to use.

Combining form, haptic, sound and beautiful graphical content gives so many avenues in which to communicate the values of brand and provide the customer with direct control that builds the ultimate bond.
